21# 2016 Tesla Model S P100D (2.28 seconds)
The second-fastest time from 0 to 60 mph comes from another electric car. The Tesla Model S P100D is a full-sized, five-door luxury liftback that was introduced by Tesla in 2012. The model that hit 0 to 60 in 2.28 seconds had the “Ludicrous+ Update” module on it. Even the manufacturer’s time was only 2.4 seconds!
This car doesn’t look like a supercar, and that’s because it’s not—it scored a perfect 5.0 NHTSA automobile safety rating, and gets 335 miles per full charge, which is higher than any other electric car.
The Model S became the first electric car to top the monthly new-car sales rankings in any country, first in Norway in 2013, then in Denmark. After the Nissan Leaf, it’s the second-most-sold electric car in history. In 2013, it was also the Car of the Year in the Motor Trend and the Automobile magazines.
